Wenzhou is a prefecture level city in Zhejiang Province, as the coastal port city, is located in the middle of the Chinese Gold Coast line, Southeast of Zhejiang province. In the eastern city of Wenzhou on the East China Sea, its excellent geographical location characteristics determines the advantages, potential and hope of Wenzhou is that the development and exploitation of the ocean, and to understand and master the ocean hydrodynamic environment characteristics is the basis for the development and utilization of marine resources, tide and tidal current is the main hydrodynamic environment control factors in this sea. Previous studies on the tidal wave of technology has been very mature, but few authors put Wenzhou as a whole for high resolution tide and tidal current simulation. In the paper, based on the finite-volume coastal ocean numerical model(FVCOM), we simulated M2, S2, N2, K1 and O1 tidal constituents in the Wenzhou offshore by new coastline and topography. The calculated range is 27.35°~28.4°N,120.4°~121.32°E. Because of using irregular triangle meshes in this model, so it can fit well with the tortuous shoreline in the estuary, the grid resolution can reach 50 m. Compared with the observation data obtained from 4 tide stations and 9 tidal current stations, we found that the result is reasonable to reflect tide and tidal current movement status and distribution feature, gives the co-tidal charts, the surface current elliptic distribution for five tidal constituents, and the greatest possible flow velocity distribution. For M2, the mean absolute difference of the amplitude is 4.84 cm, the mean absolute difference of the phase-lag is 5.14°. For S2, they are 2.19 cm and 3.35°. For N2, they are 5.18 cm and 4.38°. For K1, they are 0.64 cm and 3.67°. For O1, they are 0.59 cm and 4.61° respectively. This paper have five chapters:In the chapter 1, we give a brief overview of the tidal science development history, and introduce the background and significance based on the predecessors have done research, finally introduces the purpose of this article. In the chapter 2, we summarizes the basic characteristics of the study area from landscape, meteorological, hydrological three aspects, and have roughly understand the hydrologic characteristics of this region from three aspects, such as tide, tidal current and residual current. In the chapter 3, we make a detailed introduction about FVCOM numerical model, at the same time we conduct the corresponding model configuration according to understanding the basic features of the study area from chapter 2.In the chapter 4, compared with the observation data obtained from 4 tide stations and 9 tidal current stations, we found that the result is reasonable to reflect tide and tidal current movement status and distribution feature. Finally, we analyze the simulation results about tide and tidal current in the Wenzhou offshore. In the chapter 5, we summarize the analysis result about numerical simulation of tide and tidal currents in the Wenzhou offshore, and state the difficulties and shortcomings in the process of research, as well as to the outlook in the future.
