Guzheng is one of the ancient Chinese musical instruments with broader range, clearer sound and more rich expression, which can be comparable with the piano. It has played a key role in the dissemination of traditional Chinese culture, and also will achieve good popularity in the coming future. With the rapid development of science and technology, the western musical instruments have been highly mature and skillful in the aspects of production specification, control of sound quality and stability of structure, etc. While the development of Chinese musical instruments is relatively slow and lag, which can be mainly concluded as follows: 1) structure design lacks the scientific guidance, the structure of the instrument is unstable and its tone is inaccurate and 2) the technic of the instruments production is relatively traditional and backward, and its quality cannot be guaranteed and 3) the communication between the designers and players is not so easy, which makes a lot of troubles in the development and progress of Chinese musical instruments. Based on this background, modeling analysis on the vibro-acoustic characteristics of Guzheng has been established in this paper, a complete research system of Chinese musical instruments has been explored, and the Guzheng voice mechanism and the relationship between vibro-acoustic characteristics and structure has been revealed, which provides a theoretical basis for production standardization, quality control and structure design of Guzheng. The dissertation will be mainly presented as follows:1) The summary on the research development of both Chinese and western musical Instruments, existing issues of Guzheng and the direction of the counterpart research are displayed.2) Guzheng structure and acoustic system is introduced briefly in this paper, the mechanism of voice is revealed, and simplification of the model structure of Guzheng is employed.3) The dynamics analysis of the vibration of plucking and sweeping strings has been established firstly. Then, the dynamic model of the process has been built that the string vibration passes from the bridge to the Guzheng panel. Finally, the accuracy of the model proposed in this dissertation has been verified through the comparison of the numerical results of between using the Matlab simulation and the experiment.4) The 3-D FE model of the Guzheng structure has been established to analyze the vibration frequency response, and its verification has been achieved by the experiment. The acoustic FE model and its analysis have been established with vibration frequency response as the acoustic boundary conditions, and the frequency response characteristics of radiated sound pressure have been obtained then. The Guzheng structure vibro-acoustic simulation has been proved effectively by the comparison between the numerical results and the experimental data show which can be used for structure design of Guzheng. What’s more, the vibro-acoustic characteristics of Guzheng has been simulated using the approach proposed in this paper considering different sound hole position, structure height and structure proportion. Finally, the analysis of the relationship between structure parameters and vibro-acoustic characteristics has been exhibited thoroughly.5) The sound reconstruction of Guzheng simulation data has been completed by utilizing curves of time history of transfer force of the bridge, the main structure sound pressure frequency response curve, and the combination with digital signal processing technology. The auralization of Guzheng acoustic characteristics has been realized finally.
