| Waves, the ocean appearance, which is the most intuitive understanding of the ocean. But in terms of the present study, we have very limited understanding of it. The simulation effect on wind waves of the third-generation wave model which has a big step of development recently, has been repeatedly proven in actual use. Inspite of that, there are still a series of defects on swell simulations,such as insufficient understanding of the specific physical processes, excessive reliance on empirical formula, etc.Indian Ocean is the only ocean significantly affected by the regular Monsoon in the world. As the Monsoon changing between two states of prevalent and weakened, the impact on the ocean waves by the swell propagating from the south also has two states of weak and strong. Aiming at that characteristics of wind and swell seas, we are selecting the newly added wind energy input and dissipation WAM-4 program and the existing program from model WAVEWATCH Ⅲ 3.14 verson to simulate the characteristics of the waves of Indian Ocean through debugging parameters. What’s more, we implement the spectral partition to the simulation results, and the full spectrum is separated into the wind wave part, the first swell part and the second swell part and compared with the first swell portion inverted from the ENVI ASAR data. The results tells not only that the BAJ program has the best performance on both the significant wave height and the wave direction but also that the best simulation result appears in the February while the worst in the November through the whole- yoar.And that is mainly refleted in the correlation coefficient,the root mean square error and angular deviation.That is due to the ’transitional period’ between southwest monsoon and northeast monsoon in November.In that period,the north Indian Ocean affected significantly by the long wave swells propagating from the south,which results in the decline of the simulation effect of the WAVEWATCH Ⅲ 3.14.For making a better version of the existing WAVFWATCH Ⅲ 3.14 wi nd input and energy dissipation scheme, the paper takes advantage of ENVI ASAR data,using the source determining and the swell extraction techniques to extract the qualified swells in the whole year of 2003,and as a result, finding out that the dissipation rate is -0.7-1.4× 10-7m-1.We hope the research can be able to play a role in the study of the dissipation mechanism and the improvement of wave models. |
