Photons will interact with medium when transporting in the atmosphere, and backscattering occur. During the process of backscattering, the backscattered light contains specific polarization information. Polarization information of backscattered light has much application value in many fields such as aerosol, dehazing, quantum communication,target recognition, remote sensing and so on. The polarization properties of backscattered light will change as the medium thickness grows, and it is helpful to understand the inner properties of medium. The thesis focuses on the polarization properties under different medium thickness,and the main contents contains:(1) Basing on the Mie scattering theory, the thesis modified the classic Monte Carlo polarization model, realize two kinds of function, medium thickness simulation and backscattering. Using the modified model, the thesis improved the existing simulation system for backscattering. The improved system can add up the backscattering polarization information, and this procedure is 3D visual(2) Aiming at the question that how medium thickness influence the backscattering polarization properties, the thesis carried out relevant simulation. In the simulation, the thesis analysises the polarization property of backscattered light in variable thickness medium. The simulation results indicate:medium thickness can influence the backscattering polarization properties directly; thickness will enpolarize or depolarize the backscattered light with different concentrations, and the maintaining ability of linear polarized light and circular polarized light are different.(3) After studying the relationship between the medium thickness and visibility, the thesis carried out the experiment about how visibility influence the backscattering polarization properties, and provide experiment support for the simulation.
