Magnetic field has a variety of important contacts in all aspects of human life Magnetic field measurement techniques are widely used in space technology, medicine, Earth’s magnetic field, military, industry and other fields. With in-depth study and application of a magnetic field, traditional magnetic field measurement method has exposed some limitations, increasingly difficult to meet the precise needs of measurement and magnetic imaging. People have paid more and more attention to the magnetic field sensing system based on the Faraday effect Because of its excellent electrical insulation properties and anti-jamming, wide frequency response, fast response, security and other features. But physics factor such as magnetic field distribution, temperature, stress and so on make so much influence on the performance of sensor that it is necessary to do research on modeling of the Faraday effect magneto-optical sensor mechanism and research on the imaging method of vector magnetic field. In this paper the nature and mechanism of action with related factors of the Faraday effect magneto-optical sensor is firstly studied. The infinitesimal distributed parameter model of the magneto-optical sensor is proposed and makes a comparative analysis with the Jones matrix lumped parameter model.Using the COMSOL finite element analysis software, we model the evolution of the polarization state of light in different situations over the evolution of the for magneto-optical sensor over the process, and verify the effectiveness of distributed parameter model.Based on the Faraday effect with a magneto-optical sensor infinitesimal distributed parameter mode, we propose a Faraday effect vector magnetic imaging method, deriving the magnetic field vector imaging algorithms, making a preparation of the corresponding algorithm program, to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm.Optical current transformer based on Faraday magneto-optical effect is described as an example. Considering the external factors such as temperature, birefringence and magnetic distribution, we make the thermal stress analysis in the magneto- optical current transformer sensing unit based on the Faraday magneto-optical effect sensing infinitesimal distributed parameter model, and study the impact of thermal stress on the magneto-optical sensor output characteristics.
