Landslide is a common geological disaster. China, with complex geological environment and concentrate precipitation, which result into frequent landslide, suffers a great threaten to its people’s lives and property safety. Landslide, in essence, is the soil shear failure. Soil shear failure forms a failure surface, then the surface extended into a landslide. Soil shear strength is the soil capability to resist the shear under a certain stress condition, which is equal to the soil shear stress when soil shear failure occurs on value. The monitoring of soil’s shearing strength, with soil’s stress state can forecast the landslide effectively.First, the paper expound the theory related on the shear strength of soil, include related concept of shear strength, the present situation of the shear strength measurement technology at home and abroad, the relationship between shear strength,the moisture content of shear strength and shear wave velocity.Second, the paper researched the methods of shear wave velocity measuring, expound the correlation theory and the test method at home and abroad of shear wave velocity at present. A method measuring shear wave velocity with piezoelectric bender elements is proposed to achieve field measurement.Then, a test is designed to verify the feasibility of field shear wave velocity measurement with piezoelectric bender elements. the shear strength of soft clay in Hangzhou region in different moisture content and differ ent stress state is measured。 And to the same sample the paper measure the shear wave velocity with the proposed method. Both the data was analyzed to fit out conversion formula on the shear strength and shear wave velocity and the soil moisture content.The paper research the shearing strength monitoring system based on the shear wave velocity and the moisture content, obtain the corresponding data, lay the foundation for further research.
