Photonic crystal fiber (PCF) is a new type of microstructuredfiber, Because of its novel structure, PCF has a lot of uniquecharacteristics, which is used widely on optical communication,medical, industrial and many other areas. PCF has been a focus inoptical fiber area in recent years. The study of dispersion ofphotonic crystal fibers are one of important field in the research ofphotonic crystal fibers. In this paper, the dispersion of photoniccrystal fiber are investigated in theoretical and experimental. Themain results are summarized as follows:Firstly, This paper introduces the research background andcurrent development of PCF, analyzes its structure characteristics,enumerates some different structures of PCF. Simply presents itstwo kinds of transmission principle and manufacture, as well as itsapplication in various aspects. The dispersion character ofphotonic crystal fiber is introduced emphatically.Secondly, This paper Based on the previous research,calculates the characteristics of PCF with equivalent-index Method,summarizes the theory of equivalent-index Method and multipolemethod. In this thesis, emphatically analyzed the methods of equivalent-index and multipole are employed to study thedispersion character of photonic crystal fiber.Finally, Based on the the current of the latest and high accuracyof programming calculation method of multi-polarization CUDOSapplication software package for the standard. Comparison of theequivalent refractive index results and multipole method results. bycomparing the two methods, Due to the effective refractive indexmethod in the effective core radius of approximate value lead to itssimulation and the result of multipole method has the certain error.Inthis paper By changing the effective radius Find the value of theminimum error and Comparison with multipole method, Finally it isconcluded that the best value of the effective core radius. Theseresults provide the theoretical base for the flattened dispersion ofphotonic crystal fibers.
