Landslide is a common geological disasters,it brings a great threaten to human and social development and economic construction. Landslide,in essence,is the soil shear failure.Soil shear failure forms a failure surface, then the surface extended into a landslide. Soil shear strength is an important physical performance of rock and soil, it depends on internal cohesion and internal friction of the soil, is one of the important parameters of reaction landslide disaster point whether the disaster might occur,so the soil shear strength measurements play a n important role in monitoring and prevention for landslide hazard point. This paper analyzes the current development of the domestic and international soil shear strength measurement method, in order to achieve on-site monitoring of landslide hazard point s, this paper presents a device for field measurement on soil shear strength. T he device consists of cross board, torque sensor, stepper motor, single-chip hardware circuit and other components. When measuring, the single chip microcomputer(SCM) control stepper motor to drive the cross board sheared in the soil, through the coaxial plate shear force torque sensor on the cross board to measure the torque signal, then the torque signals are transmitted to SCM, the SCM for data processing to calculate the soil shear strength. Finally, the measured data will be displayed on the PC interface. Finally, I use the unsaturated soil directly instrument and the device which is designed in this paper has done the shear strength measurement experiment through to the soft clay in hangzhou, Comparing between the data and error analysis, it conforms to the requirements of the measurement results show that the design of the device meets the requirements.
