One Gap compensating system due to theory of small deflection of thin plate has been investigated in order to solve varied stiffness caused by changed relative position of ram’s slide which may lead to inferior machining accuracy. Structure of small deflection of thin plate with its uncoupled output performance and coupled output performance under coupled force is researched in theory, FEA as well as experiments, on which design of compensating system is proposed based.First, infinite series solution of ideal deflection variation equation is proposed using the law of conservation of energy, convergence study of whose coefficients when m+∞ shows that approximate solution with m≤10 can meet the requirement for most mechanical parts. Error between the infinite series solution and approximate solution is less than 6%.Second, uncoupled output performance of structure of small deflection of thin plate are listed as below,1) Effective Fluid Bulk Modulus expression for structure of small deflection of thin plate is proposed which shows a high sensitivity to the thickness of this specific structure,2) Uncoupled stiffness expression for structure of small deflection of thin plate is proposed based on law of conservation of energy is proposed as well as a brand new concept of density of stiffness for this specific structure which lay the foundation for symmetric coupled force,3) A new equation named as variation equation for rounded corner since rounded corner should not be neglected in certain circumstances, which validity is verified by FEA and experiments. Solution to this equation is provided.Third, coupled output performance of structure of small deflection of thin plate are listed as below,1) Symmetrically coupled equation of stiffness for structure of small deflection of thin plate is developed based on the density of stiffness for this specific structure,2) Experiments of coupled output performance with symmetric forces is carried out on electronic universal material testing machine which verifies the effectiveness of symmetrically coupled equation of stiffness,3) Coupling coefficient is put forward based on theoretical and experimental results and deeply researched with piecewise linearization, which perfectly demonstrates the basic law during the gradual increase of coupled applying force,4) Asymmetric coupled situation for structure of small deflection of thin plate is qualitatively discussed due to its complexity on theory and limitation on application, further research direction of which is also illustrated.Finally, design of gap compensating system and its manipulation strategy has been investigated taking account of machining and stability.
