The spacecraft structures not only suffer the excitation of dynamic loading of variousfrequency bands which turns the dynamic properties into wideband characteristic, but also thetraditional, active, passive and integrated vibration control can hardly adapt for the charactersof the low rigidity, strongly coupled, closed modes and high reliability of the system. For thewideband structures, except for the methods above, it appears a new passive vibration controlmethod based on the nonlinear energy sink.In this paper, first of all, two degrees of freedom vibration system was employed for thewhole-spacecraft and its response was controlled by the nonlinear energy sink. For the threedegrees of freedom vibration equations, the harmonic balance method was used to get therelational expression between the system response and excited frequency and analyzed thefrequency and response of the system. By using the Runge-Kutta method, the suppress resultof the system response with nonlinear energy sink was studied. In addition, by takingadvantage of Hamilton’s principle, the coupling dynamic model between the nonlinear energysink and the conical shell was built. Reduced order processing is applied for the system by theRitz method. The effects of the parameters of the nonlinear energy sink on the response of theconical shell were discussed and the effectiveness of the vibration isolation was evaluated. Finally, the finite element simulation model of the coupling dynamics system among the rigidsatellite, conical shell and the nonlinear energy sink was established. The design wasdiscussed and the feasibility of the wideband character for the nonlinear energy sink wasverified. The results showed that the nonlinear energy sink could be applied to the vibrationcontrol for the Whole-Spacecraft.
