GNSS is short for Global Navigation Satellite System. With the support and investment to the navigation business, the United States, Russia, Europe and China had started their own satellite navigation system, and these countries has become the most four important members in GNSS system. GNSS system was designed to provide high-precision positioning information, accurate navigation information and precise timing information. Now, it has been widely used in all kinds of fields, not only promoted the rapid development of science and technology, but made important contributions for the economic growth. At present, Compass navigation system has completed the deployment task in Asia-Pacific region. This paper mainly focuses on the availability of GNSS receiver positioning algorithm, and gives some suggests after making some analysis and simulation. In this paper, the research is carried out in GPS system and Compass system. First, this paper particularly introduces some basic knowledge of GNSS system, such as the time system, coordinate system, the navigation data structure and the method of calculating the satellites’position and velocity. Then it introduces the methods of how to get the position, velocity and the time of a GNSS receiver, including the single-mode and multi-mode two ways. The flowing section describes the GNSS receiver hardware and software architecture and the working process. After that, it makes some analysis on the factors which affect the precision of position and velocity, and does some simulations and verifications on the most important two factors:ionosphere and troposphere. Finally, the paper makes a deep research on how to improve the availability of GNSS receiver positioning algorithm, and puts forward the opinion from three aspects.
