The oil recovery factor in china is only between30%and40%, and so that a largeamount of crude oil is remained underground. As most of remaining oil is between the wells, itis very important to enhance detection technology between the wells. By using the steel casingas line source (i.e. Electric Dipole), the transient electromagnetic method (TEM) can beapplied to detect the remaining oil between the wells. The line source based method has theadvantages of achieving long detection range, sensitivity to the resistivity, being used todescribe the detection distance by the characteristics of time. It has been shown to be moreeffective in adaptability to environment, the geological problems of flexibility and resolution. This paper firstly investigates the principle of the proposed line source based TEMmethod for remaining oil detection between wells. The difference between the magnetic dipolemodel and electrical dipole model for petroleum exploration and petroleum reception iscompared. It is shown that the line source based electrical dipole used in this paper canachieve better performance than the magnetic dipole for long distance detection. The receiving signal collection, transform and pre-processing of the proposed system isthen realized by using the DSP and XBee model, which includes the amplification, filtering, band trap and A/D. DSP is used to control system and XBee is used to receive command. Ifdevice was in the underground, date would be code before uploading. Finally, simulation, experiments, and field tests demonstrate the effectiveness of theproposed system.
