As a microwave sensor, Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) has the ability to workunder cloud and rainy conditions through day and night. Therefore, it is difficult tomap topography by traditional photogrammetry technology. In recent years, with thedevelopment of airborne SAR and spaceborne SAR technology, scholars showedstrong interest in the study of theory and method of three-dimensional reconstructionbased SAR images and applied it in production practice.By taking Ruoergai county as the study area,this paper conducted mapping trialproduction design. Based on natural geography of the study area and selected imagedata, the research explores the creation of technical indicators, process, technologyand methods, accuracy evaluation index in the production of1:10000DOM based onairborne SAR images and develops the standard technology system and mappingsystem and lays the foundation to carry out batch-production and services in thenational economy.Taking into account the unique nature of SAR imaging and technical advantagesin terms of topographic mapping, this paper carried out the following research fields.(1) The design and research of point distribution to carry out1:10000topographic mapping based on airborne SAR images.(2) The research of1:10000topographic map DEM and DOM productiontechnology and method by the use of airborne SAR images.(3) Accuracy assessment of1:10000digital elevation model(DEM) and digitalelevation model(DOM).By a detailed discussion of field control points selection, the method and DEMgeneration and process of DOM extraction and SAR image overall area networkadjustment technology with different quantity, different location distribution controlpoints which greatly reducing the amount of field work, the paper established a novelmodel for integration mapping and systematically proposes a design scheme of DOMmodel mapping based on Airborne SAR. The successful application in the mappingproject of Ruoergai County confirmed the feasibility of the design scheme.
