The Ulmus Pumila open forest in the Hunshandake Sandy is a kind of ultra-zonal sand vegetation that grew in the parent materil soil of sand quality, and a special ecosystem distributed by herbs, shrubs and woodland. The terrain has a significant difference on leeward slope and windward slope and makes the sand vegetation have super zonal community nature. Through field investigation we analyzed the vegetation distribution and soil nutrient of different site conditions, and to reveal elm woodland on the dunes tiny terrain adaptation mechanism and formation of a special mechanism. Providing scientific basis for the protection, management and utilization of Hunshandake Sandy elm woodland. The main results show:(1) Effect of tiny terrain of herbaceous characteristics:The slope aspect has significant correlation with quantitative characteristic and diversity index of herb, and the quantitative characteristic and diversity index of leeward herb are bigger than windward. The dune height has no significant influence on quantitative characteristic and diversity index, and the biomass, coverage, evenness of herbs are little dune>mid dune>big dune and the height, diversity index are big dune>mid dune>little dune. The slope position has a certain impact on quantitative characteristic, but no obvious on diversity index. The biomass, coverage and diversity of herbs on windward are downhill>midhill>uphill, the biomass of herbs on windward are downhill>midhill>uphill, the height is uphill>downhill>midhill, the coverage is midhill and downhill>uphill.(2) Effect of tiny terrain on distribution characteristic of trees and shrubs:The slope aspect has significant correlation with quantitative characteristic and diversity index of trees and shrubs. With the increase of the dune height, the number of shrubs increase first then decrease.(3) Effect of tiny terrain on soil distribution characteristic:The slope aspect, slope position and slope height have significant correlation on soil fertility. The soil nutrient content for different dune height is mid dune>big dune>little dune, and the the soil surface has highest nutrient. The soil nutrient of downhill is higher than uphill on same soil depth in different slope position. The soil nutrient of surface is higher than the depth on windward and leeward. The soil nutrient of leeward is higher than windward in the same soil depth.
