As the center of South of Jiangsu- West of Shanghai, Suzhou area is located between Taihu and the Yangtze River Delta, it occupies an important geographical location; In terms of geological structure, it is located in the eastern part of tectonic units in China under the Yangtze paraplatform, the South side is connected with Zhexi plot, the Quaternary Stratain Suzhou is about 150m-200 m. According to the previous study, we generally understand that the stratum framework in the Yangtze River Delta region, Suzhou region is belongs to the Yangtze River Delta, the strata distribution are: the upper Pleistocene Holocene in the area had no significant change in thickness of strata, the Middle Pleistocene to the lower part’s formation is uniform. In addition, we had found that the distribution of 70% are buried the hard clay in different depth, shallow hard clay can be used as the dividing sign between the Holocene and Pleistocene upper, but it is not has been studied as a division symbol for the deep level.Referenced with the 23 drilling holes’ representative chronostratigraphic data, delineated by controlling drilling’s pollen zone what can predict ancient geography and climate, combined with the stratigraphic division schemes in Suzhou area, collected 10 representative boreholes include in Changzhou and Shanghai, South of Jiangsu-- West of Shanghai’s Quaternary stratigraphic division had been proved, the Middle Pleistocene to the lower part’s formation is uniform. What’s more, I also prove the rationality of the transitional characteristics and stratigraphic division in the Suzhou area.In addition, according to the research method of shallow hard clay, I verify the deep hard clay as a division symbol’s the possibility and the reliability. Through the pollen curve and chronostratigraphic data I found that the 3m depth brown hard clay、about 90 m depth blue and grey hard clay、about 120 m gray green hard clay can be treat as boundary. So the research of hard clay and ultimately can determine the stratigraphic framework in this area.
