The clouds and snow as the important and active influence factors are participant in the climate system. With the development of remote sensing technology, the combination of remote sensing and geographic information system technology to study with clouds and snow is increasingly used. In this paper, we through a ways to combination of remote sensing and geographic information system technology to study the spatial and temporal changes of clouds and snow cover by using MODIS data and terrain data. Providing reference to further service in the atmospheric environment and people’s life and daily production. First, we concluded the clouds, snow and other surface features spectral characteristics, established nearly a decade of cloud cover and snow cover database of Sichuan. Discover the regular pattern and cover characteristics. Second, according to the situation of cloud and snow cover proposed new classification method. By means of comparison, combined with geomorphologic division of regions in Sichuan province to find the regular pattern. Rain City, Ya’an as the center of clouds cover, southwestern Sichuan basin and the Hengduan Mountains alpine and canyon region has cloud cover. Snow-covered concentrate on the Hengduan Mountains alpine and canyon region and rivers upstream mountains and valley region. Based on the different partitions set up the cover division. The highest density clouds cover in the mid- mountains of basin margin. Hills and terrace has little snow cover of one year. The duration of snow covered in alpine topographies and extremely high mountain landscape region place. Finally, combined with the three tea producing areas in Sichuan Province as the birthplace of Chinese tea culture, to explore distribution of clouds and snow distribution characteristics.
