Solar activity is the variation of total solar radiation which is emitted from the solar surface. The rapid changing solar activity can cause such phenomena as a geomagnetic storm, ionosphere storm, etc. They gravely obstruct wireless communication and relevant ground facilities. In the human aerospace activities, the solar wind has a significant influence on the aerospace exploration.However, due to the tremendous amount of space science data and performance limit of three-dimensional visualization, it is demanding to find a way to visualize the solar activity for real-time.Texture is an ordinary phenomenon in present world, which can represent the objects’ surface characters. It is often used to display the geometry of curved surface in research area of computer graphics and virtual reality. Dynamic textures are representations of textured surfaces, which have repetitive, time-varying patterns and so on. The patterns can form an image sequence that can show some certain stationary properties of surfaces in real time. Cell automata are ideal mathematical models of complex systems in nature. They can emulate lots of phenomenon in nature such as falls, waves, fire, fog and so on.This thesis applies the synthetic method of dynamic textures to solar activity’s visual simulation. In this thesis, by building the background texture, it synthesizes the sun’s surface. On the other hand, through the method of cell automata, the thesis emulates the variations of sun flare. In this way, people can clearly understand the sun’s variety.The innovations of this thesis are:? Apply the synthetic method of dynamic textures to space science;? Present the QTM algorithm to solve the texture of the pole during thespherical texture mapping;? Build the evolutional rule of the cell automata to simulate the sun’s dynamicchange;By combining the dynamic textures synthetic method and the cell automata, the solar activity’s visual simulation is made in real time. The time consuming in calculation is reduced while the quality of the visualization is keeping.
