Wave energy is a kind of renewable energy, which does not pollute the environment. Many countries have begun to focus on this new type of energy, carried out a lot of research in the past few decades, and made many breakthroughs. At present, the world has witnessed many different types of wave energy conversion devices, and some of the wave energy conversion devices have been commercialized.Pelamis wave energy converter in this paper is set in the deep sea, relative rotation between adjacent floating bodies is driven by wave, and then the relative rotation drives a hydraulic system, and transfers the energy through the power conversion device to the storage device. The main advantages of Pelamis wave energy converter are:simple structure, high wave energy conversion efficiency, adaptability is good in the harsh marine environment, stable power generation.Pelamis wave energy converter is simplified to five identical hinged cylinder modal in the paper, then this problem can be seen as wave and multi floating-body interactions. Based on linear potential flow theory, the paper applies higher-order boundary element method and numerical study in the frequency domain. The constraint matrix is introduced into the equations of motion using total modal method, so that the equations of motion for multi floating-body system can be simplified to a unified form. In order to obtain larger total power, the influence of hinged stiffness, hinged damping and draft on the motion response of the structure and the total power is studied. The objectives of the paper are as follows:(1) The influence of hinged stiffness on the motion response of the structure and the total power is studied numerically, and the reasonable range of hinged stiffness is gained through comparative analysis.(2) The influence of hinged damping on the motion response of the structure and the total power is studied numerically, and the reasonable range of hinged damping is gained through comparative analysis.(3) The influence of draft on the motion response of the structure and the total power is studied numerically, and the reasonable range of draft is gained through comparative analysis.
