Porous anodic alumina(PAA) membranes have attracted considerable attention due to the relatively simple equipment and technology required to produce them, the ease of controlling the process, and the many potential applications. As we know, PAA played an important role in synthesising one-dimensional nanometer materials. Whlie with the deeply researching of the structural color, more attention has been paid to PAA template which has the period arrange structure like organisms. What’s more, our group turned to the study of preparing structural color with PAA membranes and great achivement have been made in the past several years. Based on former works, we have fabricated the Zn@PAA nanocomposite films. For the purpose of further research, we have fabricated Ti O2 films with bright structural colors by anodic oxidation. The structure and characteristics of those two set of films, Zn@PAA and Ti O2, are characterized. The mechanisms for films displaying brilliant colors were discussed. The details are as follows:(1)Using once anodic oxidation method, a series of PAA/Al films were prepared in phosphoric acid electrolyte at room temperature. Using the PAA/Al films as the template,Zn@PAA nanocomposite films with structural color were synthesized by an ac electrodeposition method. Due to the deposition of Zn, the effective refractive index of Zn@PAA composite film increases, weakening the light reflected from the alumina/Al interface, thereby leading to more highly saturated color. UV-vis reflectance spectrum measurement results indicate that the maximum reflected wavelength is in good agreenment with the observed color. Bragg-Snell formula can be used to calculate the wavelength of light reflected by the Zn@PAA composite film. The saturated color of those flims is come from the interference of reflected light.(2)A series of Ti O2 films can be prepared by using once anodic oxidation method. The Ti foils are can be used to prepare Ti O2 films, which has a highly saturated color. Precise color tuning can be achieved by changing the time of chemical etching. The saturated color of the film with a short etching time and the thickness below 80 nm are come from light scattering. When the thickness of the film is greater than 80 nm, the saturated color of those flims is come from the interference and we can calculate the film with Bragg-Snell formula.(3)The Ti/Al films were prepared by using the magnetron sputtering. The Ti/Al foils are can be used to prepare Ti O2 films, which has a highly saturated color. Precise color tuning can be achieved by changing the time of chemical etching. The saturated color of the film with a short etching time and the thickness below 80 nm are come from light scattering. When the thickness of the film is greater than 80 nm, the saturated color of those flims is come from the interference and we can calculated the film with Bragg-Snell formula.
