Wenchuan earthquake was one of the strongest spread widely range of destructive earthquakes that happened on May 12, 2008 since our country established. It caused serious damage on natural ecosystems in Sichuan province, the damaged area of forest reaches to 328,700hm2 in this disaster,the forest coverage rate has felled 1.87%.The disaster directly caused the loss of living wood growing stock is 19,582,500m3.In total, 31 nature reserves affected in vary degrees. The damage and recovery of forest vegetation is an important judgment index for determining the natural ecosystem quality in earthquake-stricken area. This paper focuses on the damage area of forest vegetation in the earthquake disaster, as well as the recovery area of forest vegetation after the disaster. This article selects the Wolong nature reserve as the research area, the Wolong nature reserve is one of the 31 worst-hited reserves in the earthquake, a big large areas of forest was destructed. This paper study the vegetation damaging extent、area and distribution characteristics, evaluated the six years’ recovery of vegetation and ecological environment in damage area after the earthquake, that has an very important guiding significance for the Vegetation restoration in the late and the reconstruction of ecological environment.This paper based on reading lots of related literature in the domestic and overseas, according to the geographic information elements of the study area, to study the damage and restore situation of vegetation. Taking the Landsat TM/OLI Satellite remote sensing image as the data sources for the vegetation information. First of all, damage and restore model of vegetation must be set up, then, extracted the data of damage and restore vegetation, at last, The extraction of vegetation information data must be overlay analysis and class statistics with elevation, gradient, slope direction respectively, to research the damage and recovery rules of vegetation in the earthquake.The main conclusions as follows:(1)Dimidiate pixel model has certain practicality for estimating vegetation coverage and plays an important role in assessing the damage of vegetation caused by geological disasters.(2)Vegetation was badly damaged in the earthquake, total area of the damage up to 9268.72 hm2, 9.0% of the Wolong Nature Reserve, in which severe damage up to 4906.18hm2, moderate damage up to 3149.83hm2 and mild damage up to 3149.83hm2.(3)For the Effect of vegetation damaged, the most seriously is slope; the more seriously is elevation and the least is slope aspect.(4)After six years of restoration, restoration of vegetation in the study area show a good trend, most of which have exceeded the level of earthquake, but still do not reach the level before the earthquake, however there are a few places even worse than the earthquake.(5)Through the Research, the slope has a small effect on vegetation restoration; slope aspect and elevation have little effect.
