In recent years, information sensing technology, data signal acquisition, dataanalysis and processing technology have improved because of the rapid developmentof modern science and technology. Structural damage identification method based onthe vibration characteristics of the structure are increasingly concerned by themajority of scholars, which has become the focus of engineering field. Because theacceleration information will change when the structural damage occurs, transferentropy is introduced and combined with the acceleration information of structure todetect the structural damage. The main content consists of the following parts:(1) A summary of common methods for detecting structural damage is made andthe advantages and disadvantages of different methods are described at first. Throughanalyzing of the current situation of information entropy in the field of damageidentification, the transfer entropy has been found as the meeting point of civilengineering structural damage identification and information entropy theory.(2) Combing the finite element simulation software with the numericalcalculation software, the concrete simple-supported beams is constructed. The transferentropy among different nodes of simple-supported beam is calculated by gatheringthe acceleration response signal, solving the Kernel density estimation, and verifingthe rationality of the structure damage identification with linear transfer entropythrough constructing similarity index. By presetting different damage forms, theresults show that the transfer entropy has a good performance in the aspect of damageidentification in single damage cases. when it’s a multiple damage, the transferentropy has a good performance in the aspect of damage location identification.(3) The measured information of three-layer framework experimental model hasbeen adopted to verify the transfer entropy-based damage identification method. Theillustrated results show that the transfer entropy-based method has a good recognition in linear damage.
