In this research, seeds,4-5years old seedling and1year old seedling of Melliodendronxylocarpum are used as experimental material, we did the pilot research of the propagation ofseed, hardwood cutting, softwood cutting and it’s rooting mechanism of M. xylocarpum. Themain results are as follows:1. The seeds of M. xylocarpum are part-dormant seeds, the main sprouting obstacle is thethick lignified endocarp, and it’s difficult for seeds to break away from fruit. After2-3months ofmoisture accumulation, seeds start to break through the endocarp. The best treatment for seedsbreaking through is to peel the epicarp and use the epicarp cover the fruits during the lamination.Chilling sand lamination and GA3treatment have no significant effect on germination of M.xylocarpum seeds. The epicarp and endocarp both contain germination inhibitors. The germinaterate of soil cultivation after peeling the seed out from fruit is60%, it’s40%higher than thegerminate rate without peeling seeds treatment. There is significant difference among the fruitsfrom three different provenances.2. Exogenous auxin treatment improved both of hardwood cutting and softwood cutting.30mins of IAA+IBA+NAA(1:1:1)with concentration of1000mg/L treatment is the besttreatment in this research. Top rooting rate of hardwood cutting is46%, top rooting rate ofsoftwood cutting is74.67%. Leaves cutting treatment didn’t improve the rooting rate ofhardwood cutting, but it slightly improved the rooting rate of softwood cutting, the growth statusof adventitious roots is worse than without the leaves cutting treatment, and the adventitious rootsappear later.3. There is a positive correlation between the rooting rate and the content of nutrients incuttings, the activity of the antioxidant enzyme. In IAA+IBA+NAA (1:1:1)treatment group, thecontent of nutrients is higher and the antioxidant enzyme is more active than other groups, andthe rooting rate is the highest in all groups, this proved the exogenous auxins improved therooting process of M. xylocarpum in an internal way.
