Analysis Of The Lightning Charateristics In The Area Of Potala Palace And Design Of The Revelent Trigger For Detecting Lightning Signals

Lightning is a natural phenomenon of atmospheric discharge. Lightning occurs in the atmosphere up to3.1billion times each year, an average of about100times per second. Lightning is a serious natural disaster for humans. Economic losses caused by the lightning accident or lightning interference in the global are more than$1billion each year. Therefore, it is necessary to make a research on detection of thunder and lightning characteristics.Firstly, a statistic analysis is given in this paper for the detection data of the lightning characteristics in the area of Potala Palace in2012. The lightning characteristics are discussed according to the analyzed result in this area. The summarization is also given for the curves of the diurnal, monthly and annual variation of lightning activities, and for density of lightning flash. Then, the proportion of positive and negative lightning is obtained, which is compared with the respective data detected from the low altitude area (Beijing). Based on these researches, a preliminary remark is presented for the lightning characteristics.A function optimization is also made in this paper for the lightning location system that detects the data of lightning flash. The special triggering device is developed to trigger the lightning return signals. It employs the technique of Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and has the capability of performing multifunctional trigger. Two professional softwares are used in the design of the triggering device, with its top-level and underlying designs made by programming with VERILOG HDL HDL language and modularized circuit combination, respectively. As a consequence, the triggering device can carry out multifunctional triggering and sampling, and output the required signal waveforms.
