Papuan basin is a Mesozoic and Cenozoic oil and gas bearing basin in the north margin of Australian continental plate. In order to further research in tectonic characteristics and evolutions and analyzed exploration prospect, based on the analysis of previous research, detailed interpretation of the2D seismic data, systematized the analysis of structural-tectonic styles of Papuan basin, rebuilded the structures of Papuan basin and its history of filling. The result show that:(1) Papuan basin suffered tectonic evolutions for four cycle step, along Tasman orogenic belt east-west both wings demonstrated distinct structure since Late Paleozoic, which obviously control the tectonic framework of Papuan basin.(2) According to the principle dividing tectonic province, combine the foregoing foundation, Papuan basin is divided into nine secondary tectonic provinces.(3) Papuan basin accepted abundant Mesozoic sedimentary deposit and filling with trough-platform style in the eastern area after Permian episode of faulting, Upper Cretaceous, Papuan basin was uplifted and corroded by Coral Sea extension, which leaded to Mesozoic sequence distribution in residual depression; it distribute stratiform in western and become thicker direct at west, besides, it demonstrate overlap direct at east.(4) Owing to the Papuan basin through four major steps of tectonic evolutions, combine core, logging and well log, which is show that the sedimentary system contain delta, onshore, shallow shelf, carbonate platform and slope-basin.(5) Papuan fold belt-Aure mobile belt close to the hydrocarbon generation center and it provide fine reservoir, which is hot topic of exploration in future.30figures,2tables,62references.
