Data Exchange And Collection Control Of Handheld Field Data Acquisition System

The development and updating of the mobile internet, mobile GIS softwares, handheld mobile devices and the communication technologies provides a new thought for field data collection.The paper thoroughly studies the design and development of handheld field data acquisition system. The results of this research are as following:1. The research and application status of field data collection methods and mobile GIS have been analyzed. To explore a universal data collection solution, the requirement of customizing task lists, issuing tasks and submitting tasks has been put forward for the problems that the existing data collection solutions can only be used for a single task.2. The demands of the hardware, software features and data has been analyzed in the paper. To meet the requirements of Changsha environment monitoring center station, a suitable handheld GPS equipment and portable label printer have been selected. The system architecture and the software function modules have been designed.3. The tasks are stored and exchanged in the form of files. The file system, user interface, and the data of users and tasks have been designed.4. The data of users and tasks is in XML format. The methods to read the XML files, generate task interface automatically and save the XML files have been provided.5. A field data collection system running on the handheld devices is developed in ArcGIS Mobile SDK, C#programming language and.NET Compact Framework. It includes the functions such as logging in, downloading tasks, reading tasks, saving tasks, compressing and submitting tasks.6. A task management system running on the servers is developed in C#programming language and.NET Framework. It includes the functions such as customizing tasks, task data conversion, issuing tasks and receiving the submitted tasks. The system that can be used in the actual collection has been submitted.
