For a long time, migration studies at home and abroad have been focused on the humanities, such as politics, economy and culture, while influences of geographical environment change in history are rarely involved. In fact, however, the historical change of geographical environment and population migrations are closely connected with each other.Great migrations in China history have occurred three times to change the population distribution pattern, which respectively happened in the "Yongjia Riot" period of the Western Jin Dynasty, the "Anshi Rebellion" period of the Tang Dynasty as well as "Jingkang Chaos" period of the Northern Song Dynasty. They can be said to be directly related to the wars (especially with the northern nomads) of those time. Therefore, this paper will choose these three historical periods of population migrations as the research objects; using GIS spatial analysis methods, through the distributions of the wars in the Western Jin Dynasty, the Early&Middle Tang Dynasty and the Northern Song Dynasty, as well as the average temperature in January reckoning by Zhu Kezhen Phenological Temperature Curve in theory, influences of geographical environment change in history on the activities of the three large-scale population migrations will be explored; and finally are some theoretic laws found. The historical change of geographical environment objectively created the larger environment of "Yongjia Riot","Anshi Rebellion" and "Jingkang Chaos", which influenced the distribution pattern of the wars by affecting the previous climate conditions. It changed the balance of power between different countries and nations, which led to the outbreaks of the three unrest, and eventually brought on the three large-scale migrations with far-reaching effects in China history.By means of GIS, to study the relationships between the war distributions and climate change in order to investigate the potential link between the three large-scale population migrations and the geographical environment in history, is the core content and innovation of this paper. This indirect method in theory can provide a new thought for the study of the geographical environment change and population migration, which has good results.
