The response process of detonation and shock is very short, relat ing to the largedeformation o f different materia ls and also acco mpanied by high te mperature andpressure, many parameters can’t get accurately by the experimental methods. With therapid develop ment of computer techno logy, numerica l simulation has become the theimportant ways to research the response process of detonation and shock problems.There are many kinds of Finite Ele me nt Method(FEM) has good calculatio n tostudy the problem of detonation and shock response. But there are some d ifficultswhen use the FEM to simulating the response of shock initiation and detonation ofcondensed explos ives: Us ing the Lagra nge method will meet the mesh d istortio n andmade it diffic ult to continue the s imulatio n. Based on the method of Euler is unable toaccurate ly track the interface materia l and moving boundary, mak ing it impossib le fortracing the materia l point. In order to solve the proble ms above, we need to find a newnumerical method to overcome the difficulties encountered in FEM.In this paper, based on the S moothed Particle Hydrodyna mics(SPH) tosimulating the proble ms of the response of shock initiation and detonation ofcondensed exp losives. SPH has strong ability in solving large deformations and iseasy to simulate materia l fragme ntation and s lash. This paper us ing the SPH tosimulate the formation process of shaped charge jet and comparing with the rele vantliterature and experimental data.The Ignition and Growth model is incorporated into the SPH method to representthe reaction model of condensed exp losives. One-dime ns ion detonatio n process ofcondensed exp losives PBX-9404and TATB are taken as numerical exa mp les toanalyze the feasib ility of SPH method in the s imulatio n of detonation with ignitionand growth model. Numerica l results show that the SPH method co mbined withIgnitio n and Growth mode l can give good prediction for the von Neumann spike stateof detonation in condensed explos ives. Propagation and interactio n of cylindricallydivergent detonation wave in PBX-9404have also been successfully simulated bySPH method combined with Ignition and Growth model.The process of long-rod projectile penetrate reactive armor is simulated in thispaper based on self code of FE-SPH method. The interference process of long-rod projectile penetration by the trans ie nt response of reactive armor is reproduced in thesimulation.
