24rivers of10districts of shanghai were surveyed in2011,2012and2013on aquarterly basis. The health of the rivers are evaluated by index of biotic integrity forphytoplankton (P-IBI) and index of biotic integrity for benthic (B-IBI). And the healthof7rivers before and after ecological management were assessed.According to the investigation of phytoplankton in24rivers during2011~2013,6relatively clean sites and18contamited sites were defined using Shannon’s index ofphytoplankton and physic-chemical water quality data(TN, TP, CODMn). Judgementability and pearson correlation were performed on19candidate metrics with SPSS18.0and origin8. The results show that4biological metrics, Shannon’s index ofphytoplankton, percentage of the number of diatom taxa, abundance of algal, percentage of movable diatom density, are more suited to health assessment on riversof shanghai. After getting homogeneous dimensions with ratio method, the healthstandards of rivers in shanghai is devided using quartation: P-IBI>0.63is health,1.90~2.53is sub-health,1.27~1.90is fair,0.63~1.27is poor, and P-IBI <0.63is verypoor. Then assess with those criteria, the results show among24sites in Shanghai,4sites were health,12sites were sub-health,7sites were fair, and1site was poor.According to the physic-chemical water quality data (TN, TP, CODMn), define6relatively clean sites an18contamited sites. Judgement ability and pearson correlationwere performed on28candidate metrics, steps of which are similar to phytoplankton. And the results show that number of individuals, percentage of crustacean andmollusks number, percentage of oligochaeta and hirudinea number, percentage offacultative group taxa number and taxa number of scraping group, are suited to healthassessment on rivers of Shanghai. Take advantage of ratio method performingdimension unity, we get the health standards of rivers in Shanghai, B-IBI>3.73is health,2.80~3.73is sub-health,1.86-2.80is fair,0.93~1.86is poor, and B-IBI <0.93is very poor. Assessing with those criterias, what the results show among24sites inShanghai is that3sites were health,9sites were sub-health,7sites were fair, and5sites were poor. The assessment on rivers using Index of Biotic Integrity for Benthic is poor thanphytoplankton. The reason for this status could be that the rivers in shanghai arepolluted seriously, which indicates that the selection of candidate indicator is few, andthe bearing dirty ability of almost species is strong. Furthermore, the influence of thedeposition of pollutions in water on benthic has accumulative effect.Conduct a health assessment on7rivers which performed ecologicalmanagement located in7districts before and after treatment using Index of BioticIntegrity for Benthic and Index of Biotic Integrity for Phytoplankton. And the resultsshow that all the physical condition of7rivers have different degree of increase, which indicates that the ecological management on these7rivers obtain better effects. The correlation between P-IBI and11physic-chemical factors, B-IBI andphysic-chemical factors are analyzed using pearson correlation analysis respectively. And the results show that the P-IBI is very significantly negative correlation with TNand Chla, and signifiantly negative correlation with water temperature the B-IBI isvery significantly negative correlation with total nitrogen and signigicantly positivecorrelation with conductivity.
