Project management as a discipline has developed its unique methodology and scientific theories after dozens of years of development. It has gained recognitions in the wide range of industries. Multi project management theory, as the new trend in the field of project management research, has attracted significant attentions from both academics and industries since 90s. However, to form its unique methodology and develop further into a discipline, more researches in both multi project management theories and applications are needed.Empirical studies conducted in this paper unveils several key issues due to the complexity and heterogeneity nature of large scale enterprise technology transformation program and suggests project management theories as promising approaches to tackle these issues. Thus, this thesis proposes the application of multi project management theory on the project organization structure in the large scale enterprise technology transformation program. This paper also proposes the general model for the large scale enterprise technology transformation program based on the following four principles– balanced control, high efficiency, smooth information flow, and high flexibility and adaptability. The structure of the model includes three aspects– fundamentals (generic specification project management), key steps, and the core. Empirical studies are conducted on the application of multi project management theory in technology transformation program in China Nuclear Industrial Group Corp.NO.272 Plant. After two years of test running the multi project management paradigm factory wide, significant performance improvement is observed across multiple projects with aggregated investment capital amounting to over 300 million Yuan. The project mission is accomplished successfully, which is in sharp contrast to the past failures in different aspects including project deadline completion, budget, and other performance measures. This thesis further discusses the limitations and issues to resolve for current implementation of multi project management theory. The work in this thesis contributes to the existing literature by exploring the potential application of multi project management theory and improving the management status for technology transformation program through the application of multi project management theory.
