This thesis demonstrates the positive impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) on global and regional economy by theoretical analysis and case study. Based on the actual situation of west China, the necessity and feasibility of attracting FDI are fully discussed, and a series of exercisable proposals are put forward. This thesis is divided into four parts:Chapter One introduces the positive impact of FDI on global and regional economy, and discusses the contributions that FDI has made to China's economic development over the past decades. Chapter Two discusses the advantages and disadvantages of west China for attracting FDI and the current state of FDI in that region. Over the past five years since the implementation of the strategy of large-scale development of the western region of China, FDI in west China has made great progress. There are abundant natural resources, a huge market, and low cost of labor force in the western region. However, compared with the eastern region, west China still lags behind in attracting FDI, due to disadvantageous investment environment. Chapter Three analyzes the problems existing in attracting FDI to west China such as the small scale and single sources, the unbalanced geographical and industrial distribution of FDI. Chapter Four tries to put forward ten measures to solve those problems. The last part is the conclusion.
