Study On Spectrum Of Recreation Activity Around Medium And Small Cities

With the increasing of leisure time and per capita income possession, recreation activities of urban residents flourished not only in large metropolises such as Beijing, Shanghai, but also in medium and small cities. However, it is noted that researches on urban recreation rarely focus on medium and small cities. Besides, it was much popular to study on spatial pattern of recreation than on recreation activity itself in the past. To supply a gap, this paper place emphasis on spectrum of recreation activity around medium and small cities.Questionnaires analysis is the basic work to the whole research. Sample cities are selected with PET model before investigation. Qualitative and quantitative analysis is applied in this research.The whole paper mainly comprised by five parts. In the first part, Concept of research object, which named spectrum of recreation activity, is established and affirmed in this part. It is a renewed concept based on theories of ReBAM and recreation activity system. In second part, internal spectrum of recreation activity around medium and small cities is depicted from aspects of governable leisure time for recreation, preference of recreation ground and recreation activities. External spectrum of recreation activity is generalized in third part. In forth part, the characteristic of recreation spectrum is represented and the mechanism of its forming is discussed too. The last part, suggestions about recreation development around urban area is given based on such recreation spectrum. Deficiency is point out and expectation about latter researches is indicated.Mainly conclusions:(1) Spectrum of recreation activity in narrow sense include two aspects, the internal spectrum which evolved with the recreationer and the external spectrum which influenced by social and economic environment.(2) Internal spectrum is basically evolved with recreation doer's gender, age, education level and income.(3) It is reckoned that external spectrum links to cities' scale and economic situation. Residents in different size cities have different recreation frenquncy and satisfaction. Economic levels of city influence Governable recreation time and expenditures.(4) Spectrum of recreation activity around medium and small cities constructed by this paper is supported by economic, psychological and sociological theory.Major innovative points: Theory of ReBAM is applied into researching medium and small cities for the first attempt. Concept of recreation activity spectrum is renewed and established in narrow sense. Recreation spectrums of medium and small cities is constructed, both internal and external characteristics are described.
