With the development and deepening of market reform, urbanization has gradually become one the most important structural alteration in the process of economic and social development in China. Therefore, it is a unavoidable issue to analyze the determinants of China's urbanization in transition.First, this paper briefly reviews the historical course of China's urbanization. Then, based on the classic theories and the previous researches, and from the three perspectives of the whole country, the different regions, and the independent cities, this paper makes a thorough analysis of the determinants of China's urbanization, by the employment of econometrics. This analysis holds that both the population migration and urbanization are the products resulted in the development and evolution of the industrial structure, the policy of opening-up, and the infrastructure. Under the guideline of the analysis, the paper is expected to provide comprehension and explanations for China's urbanization; and meanwhile, provide for the policy-makers a more practical thoughts pattern that suits to China.The result shows that the determinants discussed above put diversified effects on the urbanization degree in China because of the various market reform progress and regions and cities with different development levels, which implies that instead of a monotonous urbanization pattern, China should advocate and promote different urbanization patterns in accordance with different regions and cities.
