AS/RS (Automated Storage and Retrieval System shorted for AS/RS) is an important part of modern material flow system and is widely applied to every walk of life.Presently it has become one of the signs in enterprise production automation and management information. This article puts forward the way to design and layout AS/RS assisted by computer simulation ,and it has very great practical application value to improve the operation efficient of the stereoscopic warehouse ,to distribute the logistics equipments of that warehouse rationallv, and to test the whole design of the Material flow and Information flow .The content of the article is composed of the follow four parts:The first part, which is the basis of the study,concludes the statement of the structure of AS/RS, the characteristic of AS/RS, the function of the AS/RS and the principle and step of design. The first part is explained in the chapter two. The second part, which is the study of theory of design, concludes the calculation of static parameters about the design of AS/RS and the dynamic parameters of some main equipments. The second part is explained in the chapter three. The third part, which is the study of the theory of simulation, expatiates on the theory of simulation and modeling, introduces the objects and the functions of the professional software for simulation—eM-Plant completely. The third part is explained in the chapter four. The fourth part, which is about application and practice, makes the scene-like simulation of the whole flow for AS/RS by eM-Plant, regarding the logistics system of finished products in cigarette factory as the target, which is the most automatized and is applied most extensively in the country at present. The fourth part is explained in the chapter 5.The design based on simulation is the core of the paper, also is the point of innovation. In the part of the application and practice, we can see the whole space-time information of the systemic equipments in the practical process of production of future, the state of transport, storage, AGVs, shuttle cars, lane-cranes and so on, in the production locale of future. We can alse see the place where the block and bottle-neck have taken place and state how they develop, reflecting by the system of simulation. By changing the input of the parameters and simulating the process of production and the impulsion of system arosed by flactuation, we can avoid various unforeseen factors of system design in the state of idealization, and have visual and intuitionistic solving way for the block of the system. Therefore, we can know the all-sided actual flow and production information of the future automaticlogistical system before the system is invested and founded.In conclusion, the study of design and simulation based on the eM-Plant in the article not only shorten the design period of AS/RS, but improve the quality of the design, because the result of computer simulation can provide the direct reference and basis for optimizing the project.
