Today, combination of global technology standards and intellectual property is amajor trend in the development of global standards. As argument about the 3rdgeneration of telecommunication standard is going on in China, the discussion aboutglobal standards is more and more intense. We are proud of our own standards formany reasons, but establishing standards is a long-term project and requires a lot ofnecessary objectives and subjective conditions. This essay analyzes requirements toestablish a successful standard started from clarifying the definition and classificationof standards, then analyzing the relationship between standards and intellectualproperty and the importance of standards, and last concluding necessary conditionsneeded to establish a successful standard.
