Throughout the development of human's society, social economy can not developwithout technology. Technology is a powerful force that pushes the progress of theeconomy. Technology is also a critical resource in modern market competition, whichplays an important part in a company's growth and the increase of its ability to benefit.Technology's growing importance in determining success in today' marketplace hasbeen widely recognized. That is a fundamental reason why management oftechnology (MOT) has been quite regarded both in business and academic circles.Today, with technology highly advanced, it is one of the company's core competencesto acquire and exploit technologies effectively. MOT, therefore, will continue to be anarea to which draws general attention both home and abroad in 21st century.Strategic management of technology (SMOT) is the central concept of MOT. Successin today's competitive environment requires a company to pursue a coherenttechnology strategy to articulate its plans to develop, acquire, and deploytechnological resources. From the study of MOT, technology strategy which has beenincreasingly highly recognized becomes an emerging area of great importance inMOT. Effective technology strategy becomes a company's long-term and essentialstrategy to gain competitive advantage when confronted with the dynamic externalenvironment.From the angle of theories and applications of technology strategy, the thesisexpounds that technology strategy is a company's essential strategy in detail. Afterdiscussing the dynamic integration between technology and competitive strategy toconstruct the company's enduring competitive advantage, the thesis analyses differenttechnology strategy patterns a company should adopt for its own development. Thenfrom the angle of technology life cycle (TLC), it discusses a company's choices oftechnology strategies at different stages of TLC, meanwhile, based on theshortcomings of TLC theory, it expounds the industrial technological trajectoriestheory, pointing out that choices of technology strategy depends on the company'stechnological trajectories. At the end of the paper, it discusses a model for thecompany's technology strategy, eliciting the concept of the company's coretechnological competence, aiming to show that core technological competence is thebase and source of technology strategy and discusses how to identify it both from aqualitative and quantitative angle. At last it proposes a stage approach model to showhow technology strategies construct the company's competitive advantage. During theprocess of concrete analysis, the paper utilizes methods such as figures, tables,quantitative and qualitative analysis, etc., to launch research synthetically for the sakeof making every effort to guarantee the thesis's pertinence, practicability andconcision.
