A Research On The Strategies Of Development For Shipping Industry In Wenzhou

The purpose of this paper is to make a forward-looking and executable strategic development planning proposal on Wenzhou's shipping industry. Fistly, we have conducted an analysis on the external environment, including general macro situations and industrial situations, with which Wenzhou's shipping industry is handling. Simultaneously, we have made a prediction on the current developing status, future trends and market demands of the global shipping industry. Such analysis concludes that there is a great space for the development of the shipping industry, and past studies are not well-justified. Therefore, the paper is worthwhile for study and practice. Secondly, we have conducted another analysis on detailed status and internal conditions of Wenzhou City's shipping industry, arguing its strengths, weaknesses, challenges and opportunities. We have learnt from the analysis of the following: 1. Such industry has a powerful geographical strength and basis; 2. Its general status-low level, small-size and widely scattered locations, seriously incumbents its development; 3. Its product chain is not complete, i.e. the incomplete shipping trading market and shipping appliance market; besides, the auxiliary industry and the core ship-building industry are respectively in unbalanced development phases, making it unable to sustain a healthy and even development of the industry; 4. As compared with neighboring cities, the region is lack in political supports and incomplete in policies and stipulations. Having analyzed the external environment and internal conditions of Wenzhou's shipping industry, we make a third analysis on the industry from the angle of the product-chain, ascertaining the basic outline and general objectives of this strategic planning, while determining the key to the development of industries related to the shipping industry product-chain. Finally, as based on the aforementioned outline, objectives and etc., and with an incorporation of the reality of Wenzhou City, we come to the phase-by-phase strategic planning for execution, as well as reasonable suggestions on industry constitutions and on measures to secure strategic execution.
