Research On The Impact Of Foreign Direct Investment On The Competitiveness Of China's Automobile Industry

The tide of economic globalization is sweeping the world. Nowadays and in the future, the intense international competition is the basic feature. Industrial competitiveness is an important part of comprehensive competitiveness of a country. In the process of industrialization, the automobile industry is becoming China's pillar industry. In the recent twenty years, China's automobile industry implemented the policy of "exchanging market for technology "by importing foreign direct investment (FDI) . It's an urgent problem that appraising the impact of FDI on the competitiveness of China's automobile industry and whether we got technology at the expense of market and interests. By qualitative and quantitative analysis, theoretic and positive analysis, the dissertation sets up the system of appraisement of the impact of FDI on the competitiveness of China's automobile industry and analyzes the reality on the basis of it and at last puts forward some countermeasures. This paper mainly consists of three parts:The first part is the theoretic basis of the paper. In this part, firstly, the author sets up the index system of appraisement of the competitiveness of automobile industry on the basis of theories and index about industrial competitiveness combining with the characteristics of automobile industry, then selects the important index according to the motives of FDI, at last, sets up the system of appraisement of the impact of FDI on the competitiveness of China's automobile industry.The second part analyzes the reality from two aspects : the impact on macro factors including economic scale, industrial structure and concentration ratio; the impact on the core factors of enterprises including the technological ability (human capital and R&D), independent development ability and expanding ability (marketing, brand and export).At last the author draws the conclusion that the impact of FDI on the competitiveness of China's automobile industry is both advantageous and disadvantageous, but the disadvantageous impact is more obvious. From the macro aspect FDI is helpful to enhance the competitiveness of China's automobile industry. But by joint venture the multinational automobile corporations strengthen their control of China's automobile industry step by step, maintain the monopoly of technology, weaken the independent development ability of China's automobile industry, influence badly on the development of national capital. In a word, FDIcontribute less to the core factors of the competitiveness of China's automobile industry.In the last part, on the basis of above analysis and research, the author puts forward some countermeasures.
