On the basis of investigating the land use type of Red Water River, by the main technological means of RS, GIS and GPS, the paper has studied the means to draw the classified information of the land use of Red Water River ( especially under the submerge line), the analysis in high resolution remote sensing imagery in different periods (QUICKBRID), and the basic character of its land use and cover, at the same time, it has further discussed the digital managing technology for high resolution remote sensing imagery, and has briefly expatiated on the founding management information system of the data base. These researches have offered the scientific basis for rationally using land resources of Red Water River, ecological environment construction and sustainable development of social economies. The main conclusions are the following:1 It is a effective means that making use of the high resolution remote sensing imagery (QUICKBIRD) has quickly and dynamically investigated and monitored the land use type ofRed Water River, and has carried through the four grades of classification, and its result has achieved the precision requirement of the minimum area of obvious land use type (cultivated land, field, economic forest) less than 9 pixel of imagery, area precision 9~27 pixel and 0.33 hectares.2 It is a high-efficient and feasible means that making use of the digital managing technology of wave band merging, precise geometry correction, imagery merging, imagery strengthening, imagery cut out and inlay, and making the orthograph, etc, and observing on the spot to data analysis, it has carried on people-computer interactive screen translating to the remote sensing imagery data of high resolution by using many kinds of geographical information systems soft ware. It has offered the scientific basis to develop land using information system and appraise the ecological effect of environment.3 Because the valley of Red Water River involves 10 counties in 2 provinces (districts),and its data are huge and complicated, it makes data drawing, managing and using become inconvenient. Thus, establishing the actual land using database, based on Object Oriented relation type, and fully utilizing GIS based on COM technology to manage figures and attribute data base, can offer a reliable and convenient management mode to information management of land use and ecological environment construction, and can realize the science and modernization of the land using management.4 In this research, we have choosed a representative village, which is within the valley of Red Water River, to simply analyse its landscape pattern. The results showed : The way of this village land using is relatively complicated, and the area of cultivated land accounts for 52. 97 percent ofthe whole area of the land, and the rate of land cultivation and planting is relatively high, but the area of dry land accounts for largish proportion and its productivity is relatively low. According to its dominance, landscape diversity and degree of fragmentation, we can know that the degree of landscape diversity of the whole village is comparatively high, integral, and there is not evident broken phenomenon.
