Rough Set Theory is a new kind of deal with uncertain knowledge of the instrument. This paper aims at studying the rough set attribute reduction method based on the genetic algorithm and its applications in palmprint recognition. In this paper, based on rough set and genetic algorithm, an enhancing method of palmprint image and a classification method of palm-print images are gived. In the enhancing method, a palmprint image is segmented to different sub-image according to condition attribute, and the sub-images are enhanced respectively. In palmprint classification, the images are decomposed by wavelet transforms. Then we compute the energy of every data nodes of wavelet transforms. Store the energy information with table, delete redundant information by simplifying the table, and finally mine the useful information. This algorithm used powerful attribute reduction and rule making ability of the rough set. The experiment results explain that the method is effective and is simple and accurate compared with other methods.
