In recent years, digital signal processor (DSP) has been developed rapidly. It is widely used in communications, military, control, home appliances and many other fields. With the development of applications, using less hardware resources to achieve with the various types of external equipment has become one of the key technologies of DSP communication Interface. GPIO can achieve software-controlled input and (or) output function which specific interfaces can not realized. Therefore, more and more DSP integrates GPIO on chips for convenient communication between DSP and various peripherals.YHFT-DSP is a high-performance 32-bit DSP self-designed by us, which can run at 300MHz. This thesis focuses on the design and application study of GPIO for YHFT-DSP. The GPIO is very flexible and provides 16 input/output pins for YHFT-DSP, furthermore, every pin can configure independently as input/output. As output ports, their speed can reach 25Mbps. And as input ports, they can generate interrupts to the CPU and synchronization events to the EDMA in two modes: pass-through mode and logic mode. The pins are highly configurable, and have many more work modes, which make YHFT-DSP be used more widely.The main content of the thesis are listed as follows:1. According to the design requirements of chip system and the functional characteristics of the GPIO, system design has been accomplished.. Moreover, RTL-level logic architecture of GPIO has been designed and implemented in detail, which includes synchronization, read/write control registers, input/output logic, edge-detect logic, generating interrupt logic, etc.2. The function verifications of YHFT-DSP GPIO in module level and system level are taken by this thesis. Furthermore, code coverage is analyzed to control the effect of verification of GPIO.3. Based on application study of GPIO in-depth, its typical application examples are presented in this thesis, simulating I2C protocol and implementing YHFT-DSP communicating with LCM and PS/2 keyboard by GPIO.Hardware connection scheme and software driver has being given in this thesis.,and the software driver,which is written in C language,has been compiled successfully and satisfied its functions.
