Research Of Workflow Engine Based On XPDL

Workflow technology is an important development trend of computer application. With workflow technology, the modeling and analyzing the enterprise business process can optimize and regroup the business process, then improve the efficiency of the enterprises roundly. Therefore, making further research and development on workflow technology has an important realistic significance which can promote the normalization and informatization of enterprise's management and improve its economic benefits.The workflow engine is the kernel of Workflow Management System, which can drive the process execution based on process definition, and assign tasks to proper users or roles, and invoke other applications to finish task.The aim of this thesis is to improve and design the theory of workflow engine based on XPDL defined by WfMC. Firstly,the paper introduced the development of workflow technology and relevant conceptions .Then the paper gives the details of XPDL and workflow engine. According to the analysis of the practical applied requirements, this paper extends the XPDL and proposes a frame of the workflow engine based on XPDL and elaborate the running logic of this engine. Dividing the process definition into build time and running time improves the stability and high efficiency of the Workflow Management System. This paper also proposes an overtime mechanism which can resolve the problem of process overtime. Finally in the summarization of the thesis, the prospect and possible improvements are discussed.
