Usage of digital multimedia has witnessed a tremendous growth during the last decade as a result of their notable benefits in efficient storage, ease of manipulation and transmission. Unfortunately, the very nature of the digital media makes the work of pirates and hackers easier, since it enables perfect copies with no loss of value. Digital video watermarking can be a promising solution in a digital-rights-management system. As H.264 digital video becomes more prevalent, the need for copyright protection and authentication methods that are appropriate for this standard will emerge.Perceptual watermarking for video needs to take full advantage of the results of human visual system (HVS) studies. Just noticeable distortion (JND), which refers to the maximum distortion that the HVS does not perceive, gives us a way to model the HVS accurately. In this paper, we develop an improved JND model based on DCT, which inherits the former's studies. The improved model represents a more accurate perceptual visibility threshold profile to guide watermarking for H.264 digital video.First, the paper introduces the research background and the development of the digital video watermarking. It gives the basic characters of digital video watermarking in detail, including representative algorithms and so on.In addition, the paper introduces the basic characters and the model-framework of the human visual system .Several JND models based on HVS is also presented. A new improved JND profile for h.264 is developed by inherits the existed ones after analyzing their merits and drawbacks. Our simulation results show that our scheme outperforms the relevant existing models and represents a more accurate perceptual threshold profile to guide watermarking of digital video. At last, we propose a video watermarking of H.264/AVC by applying the JND model mentioned above. Experiments results show that it can achieve high robustness and good visual quality.
