With the rapid development of micro-electronics and computer technology, the traditional metal detection systems are moving toward a new direction of renovating and developing. Metal detector now comes into many aspects of out social life and industrial production, from the initial application in the detection of underground metal mine and military mine-detection to the current travel security, food, terrorism, metallurgy, and medicine and so on. With the continuous advancement of technology and the effect of metal detector in social life and industrial production, how to enhance the capability of metal detection equipments, become an urgent issue in that area.This paper reviewed the existing metal detection technology, is given the task of the metal detection system of the overall program, the entire system is divided into signal detection and signal processing of two parts. Signal detection mainly includes signal detection part of the launch coil,receiver coil and analog signal demodulation circuit;Signal processing consists mainly of single chip processing circuit and the human interface part.In the first part of the metal detector made a theoretical analysis of specific descriptions, the main point of discussion from the electromagnetic field of metal objects on the received signal amplitude and phase of, and got the same detection of metal objects at different heights on the impact of receiving the same signal phase. Then the system analysis software ANSYS finite element modeling and simulation, to verify the theoretical analysis is correct. Finally, from both hardware and software design of the system introduced in detail.
