With the merit of flexible networking modes and high transfer rate, WLAN has been widely used in recent years and become one of the most promising technologies in the field of mobile communication. However, compared with wired netorks, because of its open tranmission channel, WLAN face more security threats. With the broad applicaton of WLAN, its security becomes one of the key topics of concern. For WLAN security issues, IEEE and other related organization have drawn up WEP, WPA and IEEE 802.11i standard, China has also put forward our own WLAN safety standard:WAPI, to reduce the security risk and improve the network security performance. After briefly summarizing the main present standard and the security research status of WLAN, in this thesis, author firstly analyzed and discussed the security vulnerabilities of the 802.11 authentication mechanisem and WEP protocol. And then detailed researched the enhanced security mechanisms for WLAN:IEEE 802.11i and WAPI. And analyzed the access control mechanism, key management and encryption mechanisms in the IEEE 802.11i standard in detail, discussed its enhancement and amendment in safety performance. Also researched the basic principle of WAPI compared and analyzed its safty performance with IEEE 802.11i.After the detail research of the safety performance of the security mechanisms for WLAN, author discussed the WAPI implementing in the wireless access point in detail. According to the idea of software engineering, discussed the system analysis, software design of the WAPI protocol, and researched system implementing method in detail. Through the software test of the system, verified the system meets the WAPI protocol standard, implement a WLAN security solutions based on WAPI.
