It is an important topic that using virtual reality technology for real-time traffic simulation in the field of intelligent traffic monitoring. In this paper, we focus on how to use virtual reality technology in intelligent traffic monitoring, to achieve real-time simulation for the real traffic scenes.First of all, the paper studies the virtual reality technology and its application in the field of intelligent traffic monitoring. Then it describes the method of getting information of moving cars from the real traffic scenes, including camera calibration, vehicle detection and location, vehicle tracking method. Then it introduces the method of building real-time three-dimensional simulation platform for the traffic scenario. Base on that, the paper focuses on the optimization techniques for the 3D real-time simulation platform, including collision detection, motion path optimization, and LOD. After all, we design and implement the prototype system, and perform experiments to validate the proposed algorithm.
