As one of minor-diameter workpieces, rubber O-ring is widely used in the automobile industry. Currently, the great majority of domestic manufacturers make use of caliper to inspect inside and outside diameter and section of O-ring rubber, it is clear to see that the error of this measurement is relatively large and low-effected. To aim at the surface defects and size of Rubber O-ring, the subjects mainly focus on the following aspects:1. This paper introduced the technology of machine vision and defect detection, and built experimental platform which is consisted of the lighting system, camera, image acquisition card and PC.2. Compared with the advantages and disadvantages of various algorithms, this paper selected Cuvelet filtering and morphological edge detection algorithm as the best way to make proof of the feasibility of the whole system, which is based on image filtering, enhancement, segmentation and other classical algorithms.3. It took the advantage of Hough transform, circular projection algorithm to extract and inspect the feature of our target, according to the requirement of rubber ring.4. It did research and design on the main frame of the whole system hardware and the flow of software algorithms, which is based on TMS320DM642 DSP, and then conducted a simple simulation running on the platform.5. This paper had Detection errors analyzed and came up with the way of reducing error, then laid the ground work for the whole system.
