As an innovative wireless commucations technology, Impulse Radio Ultra-Wideband (IR-UWB) wireless communication has lots of advantages such as high transmission rate, anti-multipath ability, low power consumption, low cost, strong penetration ability, low intercept probability, and can shares spectrum with other wireless communication systems and so on. Nowadays, it has been widely applied in precise positioning, radar imaging, underground detection, high-speed multimedia wireless communications, wireless sensor networks and medicine, etc. And it possesses wide application prospect and important theoretical research value. Impulse Radio Ultra-Wideband has get much attention from the researchers because of its simple structure, easy integrated system, and the potential ability to detect and locate. This paper firstly introduces the current research circumstance of impulse radio ultra-wideband transmitter and receiver, and expounds the significance of the study. Then reviewds the ultra-wideband technology comprehensively, and analyzes the principle of the impulse radio ultra-wideband systems and the differences of transceivers between impulse radio ultra-wideband systems and carrier communication systems, describes the generation and modulation of pulse, analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of several main structures of the receivers. On this basis, studying the generation and detection of the pulse signal. The main research contents and innovative work are as follows:(1) This paper analyzes the Gaussian pulse waveform and spectrum. A optional order and adjustable pulse amplitude's Gaussian pulse generator is proposed. The pulse generator's pulse repetition frequency is up to 150MHz and it can be used in UWB communication systems. In order to meet the needs of high-speed communications, a CMOS second-order Gaussian pulse generator which has simple structure and superior performance is proposed, the pulse generator's Pulse repetition frequency is up to 1GHz.(2) A novel ultra-wideband (UWB) low noise amplifier (LNA) based on dual feedback current-reused topology is proposed. In the frequency band ranging from 2 GHz to 12 GHz, the LNA achieves a power gain of 15.6±1.4 dB, an input/output return loss lower than -10.4 dB/-11.5 dB, respectively, an NF below 3 dB (1.96 dB in minimum), and an IIP3 of-12 dBm. With superior performance, the LNA satisfies requirements of ultra-wideband system(3) The envelope detector based on Current mirror technology is adopted to detect the multi-pulse modulated signal. Simulation results shows that it can detect the envelope of DS-OOK and DS-PAM modulated signals, in other words it can extract the information carried by pulses from RF signals.(4) Cascaded emulation to the front-end circuit of the multi-pulse envelope detection receiver, the simulation results shows that the receiver can amplify the received weak DS-OOK and DS-PAM signals and detect them, and it possess a good detection effect.
