The usage of the reconnaissance robot changes the traditional detection method, and can avoid the casualty of the scout. It is the trends of the future wars. In this paper, a mobile reconnaissance robot platform was designed according to the situation of study and usage at home and abroad, the platform can carry a variety of sensors so as to be a reconnaissance robot which can fulfill one or more mission.Firstly, The moving mode, transmission mode and drive mode was designed according to the features of the reconnaissance robot and the comparison among the mobile robot which is widely studied and used at home and aboard nowadays. There were two kinds of steering mechanisms being designed and the one using idle gears was finally chosen after comparison. The material of the structure used Aluminum alloy in order to reduce the overall weight. The ability to cross the barrier is one of the most important indexes to measure the performance of the reconnaissance robot. In this paper, mechanical analysis when crossing the obstacles and moving on flat ground was made, so that the power the platform needs can be calculated, also the relationship among the tire diameter, the distance between the front and the rear wheel and the coefficient of friction between the contact surface was educed. With the result of analysis, the nominal capacity and the model of the motor and the gear reducer was chosen, and detailed mechanical design of the structure of the reconnaissance robot platform was made. Then the model of the platform was created and the simulation was done using the software of Pro/ENGINEER4.0.Finally, some key components of the platform was checked using ANSYS11.0, and an improved design proposal was presented, then summarized the full thesis and made prospect of the future of the reconnaissance robot.
