Packet loss is one of the most crucial factors affecting the quality of internet communications. In recent years, as a way of handling problem of packet loss, FEC can effectively improve the transmission throughput and application quality in the presence of terrible network condition and real-time application. Under some environment, FEC is a well helpmate of ARQ, and even a substitute.Among the FEC schemes, the high-performance long erasure codes can't meet the requirement of real time applications due to huge buffer of packets and high decoding complexity. Therefore short linear block erasure codes are widely adopted, among which RS code is of the best performance.This paper proposed a new adaptive FEC packet loss recovery architecture based on RS code, which breaks isolation of packet recovery within one packet group and brings correlation between packet groups by redesigning the generator matrix. With this new scheme, the recovery capacity of current packet group can be enhanced with the assist of following packet group. Therefore compared with traditional coding schemes, under the same redundancy rate, the recover performance is well improved, and decoding can be carried out adaptively according to the packet loss status of current packet group.
