Multimedia communication system as a hot research in area of communication applications, play an important role in industry, medical care, business and education. DSP that provides an efficient and portable platform for embedded multimedia terminal with strong data processing capability, become a mainstream direction of this area. Real-time video encoding and multimedia communication protocol is two keys of multimedia communication system. In this paper, real-time video coding algorithm optimization and SIP was implemented on the DSP platform.H.264 is a new recommendation for moving picture coding proposed by Joint Video.Team (JVT) consisting of ITU-T and MPEG. H.264 contains many advanced video coding algorithms and technologies. Compare to H.263 and MPEG-4, H.264 has a big progress in compression efficiency, capability of video content adaptive processing, especially capability of IP network and mobile network adaptive processing. H.264 is the one of the most popular video coderSession Initiation Protocol that was designed and developed by IETF, is a new generation protocol for multimedia communication framework. This protocol is used for creating, modifying, and terminating multimedia sessions with two or more participants over internet. SIP is widely used in various areas, such as remote education, IP soft phone, multimedia conference and multimedia distribution. Based on TI's DM642, H.264 video coder was embedded and SIP was implemented in this paper. In addition, the fast mode selection algorithm implementation of intra and inter prediction was analyzed in details. X264 the H.264's open-source coder, was embedded for the DSP's features with algorithm optimization, project-level optimization, structure and memory optimization, assembly language optimization. With embedding oSIP in DSP, the system implemented the function of real-time video communication under the control of SIP. The system provided main functions of video communication system, such as SIP registration, session invitation, real-time video capture and coding with H.264.
